North/South Carolina Teaching Tour Oct 21-26, 2014

I'll be heading to North and South Carolina for my final teaching trip of the year at the end of October. You can take this class at one of the eight stores listed below. You'll need to contact the stores for times and pricing.

Here are photos of the four class cards, although I really like the students to think of the cards more like recipes and idea starters for future creations. The real value in a Pop it Ups class are the tips, tricks and education about the dies themselves. You'll have the opportunity to learn all four categories of Pop it Ups folds; Pivot Cards, Pull Cards, General Pop-ups and Accordions. You'll also try out a Character and other accessory dies and folders.

Things you should bring to class:

  • Adhesives! Adhesives! Adhesives! - Tape Runner, 1/4" strong tape, mini glue dots, pop-dots and a liquid glue capable of doing detail work. (My favorite is a Fineline 20 guage Applicator bottle filled with Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive)
  • Scissors - detail scissors can also be helpful
  • Paper Piercer
  • Sanding Block (I will have some to share, but bring your own and the class moves faster)
  • Brayer (only if you have one - helps mash down the frame edges)
  • Detail Tweezers (optional, but very helpful for placing glitter dots and bear eyeballs)
  • Inks & Blending Tools (completely optional - all of my cards are inkless, but if you like the look of ink, bring colors to fit each card)

Hope to see you there!

*NEW* Fall 2014 dies, plus Spooky Sept. Secret Word winner

Congratulations to Pammy B. for participating in the Spooky September Secret Word Giveaway. Her comment on the ECD blog post incorporating the secret word ("technique") was chosen by random draw.

I’m always open to new and fresh ideas so when you post a new technique that I can use I really appreciate it. Halloween is my most favorite holiday so I was really pleased to see all the awesome cards your design team came up with. Never stop inspiring us!!

Pam has won a Lorna Label Pop-up die plus her choice of Character die. (She chose Dutch the Fox)

Speaking of Character dies, meet the two newest Characters, Dutch the Fox and Honey the Bear:

946 - Dutch the Fox
946 - Dutch the Fox

We released the two new Characters at the Collins Show last weekend. The 75 retailers who attended the show and placed an order will be the first shipments and then the dies will ship out to all retailers who place an order.

This mini-release for me has a Birthday Theme, so there is a new Props 2 die set to fit any of the Characters:

949 - Props 2

Also released at this show is a new set of Frame Edges to fit the Ring Accordion die.

950 - Ring Frame Edges 1

You can see these four dies used together on this project, from the What a Bunch of Characters class:

And of course there must be a BRAND NEW interactive die in the release. Take a look at the new Happy Birthday Pop-up die:

947 - Happy Birthday PopUp

The script writing is my handwriting and if you are curious how many times I wrote the words "Happy Birthday" before I picked the best one to use it was 8,952 (or thereabouts!) Ha!

I love that the script words are on separate dies so you can use either word on its own and for card fronts, layouts, 3D projects, etc. Here is the birthday card the Collins Workshop attendees made. It's fun to have one of the Characters peeking out from behind the words and notice that the script dies also work great on the card's front.

Two more Collins class projects that featured the new Characters:

So how do you get your hands on these hot new dies? The quickest way is to ask your local store to order them. If they attended the Collins show and put in an order at the show, then the dies are shipping to the store right now. After those stores' orders are shipped the other store orders (from all over the world) will be shipped in the order they arrived.

Don't have a local store? Check the ECD website and when the "Sold Out" sign disappears then they are ready to order. (There isn't a "Coming Soon" option on our website - it's coming soon! Ha.)

Which is your favorite new Character? Dutch the Fox or Honey the Bear?
