Deadlines and Clutter and Candy Crush

I know.

I win the "lousy blogger" award once again.

What can I say? Life's been busy. The kids went back to school and I've taken on what appears to be a more-than-part-time job as the Treasurer II of the Band Boosters.

Somehow I always seem crushed under deadlines at this time of year. Suddenly things start slipping, like blogging and picking up after myself. It doesn't help that I have found a new procrastination addiction called Candy Crush. (Don't start playing. Just don't. Trust me.)

Oh, and I've been teaching a lot.

Teaching equals two fundamental truths:

1. HARD DEADLINES - the classes are scheduled and the kits must be finished. There's no asking for an extension or showing up late. Priorities therefore MUST be reordered something like this:

  • Family.
  • Kits.
  • Candy Crush.
  • Having something in the house to make for dinner.
  • Dogs.
  • Sleep
  • Anything else that seems important.
  • Anything else that seems unimportant.
  • Housework.

2. BOXES ARRIVE - I am a documented boxhoarder and this is probably what attracted me to my current profession. Some may think that I do what I do because I am creative, but the truth is that I am simply addicted to cardboard.

Because of these fundamental truths of teaching, coupled with the fact that I taught three weekends in the month of August, the dining room quickly turned into "kit-central" and then, once it was suitably trashed, "dump central".

Behold, but be warned . . . it is grotesque. You may want to avert your eyes . . .

I know!

I decided that Labor Day was to be spent laboring . . . in this room! I purchased some plastic bins to contain all the elements of each project of my two current card classes and separated all the kit materials by card. There are a lot of kits to be made over the next two months and now I finally feel like I have a handle on things. I can simply grab one of the bins from the stack, work on die cutting the pieces for that project, and then return everything to the bin. Whew!

What are all the kits for? Here are my remaining teaching dates for 2013:
