Pop-up Graduation Card using new Journey Dies

The Journey Collection of new Pop 'n Cuts inserts and accessory dies are shipping to stores as I type, so keep an eye out at your local and online Sizzix retailers.

I needed to make a Graduation card for our friends' daughter. I'm actually not sure if she even likes cats, but I found these cute cat stamps in my stash of old Rubber Baby Buggy Bumper stamps and decided to use them.

The card itself is cut with the new Pop 'n Cuts Base - Square Card with Ornate Edge XL die and the nesting labels were cut with the Funky Label Framelits set.

The cat and "purrrr" stamps are retired RBBB and I created the flying graduation cap myself using cardstock, a black brad, and embroidery floss. (Thanks to Leslie for the tip on using floss for tassels)

My friends have been inspiring me a lot lately. Fran Sabad posted a stunning mosaic stamped card a while back that definitely inspired my stamped background on this card. I used an old Stamp Oasis diamond border stamp, 4 colors of inks and a stamp positioner.

Stamping my own backgrounds and coloring with Copic markers (still learning) are inspired in general by my friend Kelly Booth.

Stamping is fun, but don't expect me to give up my beloved patterned paper! This chevron paper is from Glitz and worked perfectly with the Funky Label Pop 'n Cuts insert for the card's interior. I used the Funky Label Framelits again to make the nesting label set to perfectly fit the pop-up leaving a slight shadow, and also added a little heart using the Heart & Flower Movers & Shapers set. The white flourishes were cut with the Pop 'n Cuts Base - Square Card with Ornate Edge XL, which includes the decorator piece. The banners were cut with the Flagpole w/Lantern & Sign Sizzlits Strip and the Label & Ribbon Movers & Shapers set.

Graduation Cats Detail1

I combined a little graduation cap from an old RBBB stamp with a newer Stampin' Up! kitty stamp for the main image. The greeting is a Lawn Fawn stamp and "congratulations" is a Tim Holtz stamp.

I used all Card Shoppe cardstocks from Bazzill for this card. I love that they also come in 12x12 now.

There are so many great projects being posted all over the web using Karen Burniston dies and here are a few to check out. These links should all open up in their own windows, so feel free to just click away - you'll still have this post open if you do.

Gretchen's "You're Tweet!" Pop 'n Cuts Card - This project was posted just today and is one of my favorites of all time from Gretchen. She'll show you step-by-step how she created this vibrant card PLUS you might win the Hello Sizzlits set if you leave a comment.

Anna-Karin's "Clear Butterfly" Pop 'n Cuts Card - I should probably rename this "Karen's Clear Butterfly Pop 'n Cuts Card" because A-K mailed it to me! That's right - I have this amazing card sitting on my desk right now and the photos are great, but in-person is even better!

Helen's "3-D Chair" Pop 'n Cuts Card - When I saw this card I fell out of my chair! How ironic! In fact, I sent the link to Gretchen and she texted back that she wanted to go crawl in a hole, to which I said I would make room in my hole so we could share. Helen just blows me away with her artistry. Make sure you also see her Friends Card, Butterfly Card and Hot Chocolate Card

Richele's "Thanks" Pop 'n Cuts Card - I really like how Richele combines patterned papers (I love PP!) with inky techniques, dies and pearl drop accents to create this rich and elegant Thank You Card. Who wouldn't feel special receiving something this beautiful in the mail? They'd probably send you a thank-you card back . . . to say thanks for the card!

Fran's "Feel Goods" Pop 'n Cuts Card - Fran rocks Stampin' Up! products like nobody's business! Oh wait, like her business! I love how she illustrates with this card that any Sizzix Pop 'n Cuts insert will work in the exclusive Stampin' Up! Pop 'n Cuts Base Die. Make sure you read about how she achieved that two-tone greeting - love that tip! You also don't want to miss her Traveler Pop 'n Cuts card - fantastic details! I want to go where this girl is going!

Kelly's "Blue Skies" Pop 'n Cuts Card - Kelly uses the same dies as I've used in my card above, (Funky Label Insert, Framelits and Square Base Die) but her card is built in the vertical orientation whereas mine is horizontal. Same insert and accessories, but completely different looks! What a great stamp set to go with a congrats theme!

Paula Pascual on The Craft Channel UK - this is a fantastic video by Paula showing how Pop 'n Cuts work. She really nailed all the great features - simple, interchangeable and coordinated. She has the video posted on her blog and says she won't watch it because she doesn't like her accent! (Which is awesome!) Join me in telling her she's fabulous. Also, we are in for a treat in the USA - Paula's dies have always been exclusive to Europe, but a few of her designs are included in the new Big Shot Starter Kit - what a great chance to get the new pretty Big Shot, with the extended platform PLUS some awesome Paula dies in the process.

Sizzix Accordion Album Ideas Pinterest Board - I've separated the ideas using the Accordion Album onto their own board since it is such a popular die. You'll see some fabulous recent Accordion Album projects from Caz Counsell, Anna-Karin, Helen Cryer, Jodi Amedei and more! Definitely give it a peek!

I've also started a new Pinterest Board to pin projects using the new Journey dies. Here it is: Journey Pop 'n Cuts Pinterest Board

As these dies make their way to the stores and then hopefully home with you, please make sure you send me a link if you've posted a project using my dies. I'll link to your project on FB and Pin it to the appropriate boards. I love to see your creative Journey! (See what I did there?)
