Arch Madness Class this Saturday at Scrapp'n Savvy!
August 16, 2012
I love my students at Scrapp'n Savvy in Spring, TX! I teach there once a month and my students trust me enough (and know me well enough) to sign up for my classes before I've even shown them what we're making!
This Saturday's layout class is no exception, although they did vote last month on which of my old layout classes they wanted me to refresh and update for this month's class. They chose the arch layout. This is a layout technique that I taught in The Netherlands and the U.K. a few years ago, and that class was a reinterpretation of the arch layout that I had published in a book years ago called Flip, Spin & Play.
And now I've refreshed it again using brand new papers from Basic Grey and accessorizing with my Pop 'n Cuts accessory dies.
The class will focus on making the interactive page (Page 1), which can be used as a single-page layout. However, I will include the four extra paper squares in the kit to get you started on Page 2 in case you prefer a spread. You'll also get instructions and a shopping list for Page 2. (Letter stickers for a title, Black & kraft cardstock and the Circle M&S die to make the rosette.)
Page 1 (the class project) features a large card that can be operated in your album with a simple page protector modification, so bring a page protector if you need help with how to cut it.
When the card opens, two large arches pop up. Each arch has a transparency overlay and can be easily filled with photos after class. You will not need photos for class. (The photos on my arches aren't even glued down! The arches hold the photos snugly)
For some added fun, there is a floating "memories" title on the second arch and a vine that pops up attached to the first arch.
This layout has no theme (other than Memories) and I chose to use random leftover photos from various summer vacations and outings to fill my layout. I then used some stash letter stickers (not in the kit) to add a further title of "Summer Snapshots" to my layout. Later I'll add little journaling spots to each photo to explain where the photo was taken and what I loved about that outing.
Here's what you need to bring to class:
- Scissors
- Trimmer
- Tape Runner
- Red liner Tacky Tape or Scor-tape
- Glue dots in two sizes - mini and regular
- Paper piercer
- Standard stapler & staples (I tried my Tiny Attacher but it had trouble with a layer of plastic paper over Bazzill cardstock. A standard stapler might be a safer bet. I will bring my power stapler.)
- Tiny Attacher stapler - this is ever so helpful with the rosette
- Inks and blending tool - this is optional. My layout is completely clean, but I do think the rosettes would look lovely with some brown or black ink highlights.
You will also make a Pop 'n Cuts card in class as a second project.
The class is sold-out, but after class, around 1 pm, I will be doing a demo of my new October release dies, the Hearth and Home Collection, and you will have an opportunity to pre-order.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
