Christmas Version - Twist Circle Panel Card with Evergreen Pivots
LOVE Twist Circle Panel Card

Dec 2016 Pop it Ups Designer Challenge #2: Party Animals!

Well 2016 is nearly over and our final Pop it Ups Designer Challenge is full of fun! Sandy Diller set the theme of "Party Animals - use any of the Character dies for a card celebrating New Years or anything else"

For my card I wanted to show yet another way to adapt the Twist Circle Pop-up die set. This time I'll use it without the upper platform and instead I'll add spirals to the lower platforms. This generic card design could be used for any theme. I decorated mine for New Year's using Hoppy the Frog and the decorator pieces from the Anita Frames. It would make an adorable Valentines card with hearts decorating the spirals.

The front of my card features the same confetti patterned paper (SEI 8-6909 from my stash) as the card's interior. I cut the patterned paper into two pieces to allow the frog to be tucked behind the title. I added his front legs, trimmed and folded, to look like he's holding the greeting. "Happy New Year" is spelled out in (very old) letter stickers from my stash and Hoppy's eye sockets, cut from gold paper, created the perfect confetti in between the letters.

As the card is opened, the Twist Circle lower platforms start to pop-up, causing the spirals to expand.

Once open, the spirals expand and the frogs pop-up. The banners suspend between the spirals, spelling out the year to come. The greeting comes from an older Stampin' Up! set called "Lovely Amazing You" - I thought it was the perfect greeting for a new year full of promise.

I explain in the video about the banners. If you're stringing 3 banners they fit nicely between the spirals - simply attach the string to the spirals and hang the banners between. However, if 4 banners are required, it took a little extra engineering. Basically I needed to anchor the "2" banner, but that meant it wouldn't be able to shift locations when the card closed. To allow for the other banners to shift, I needed the string to be able to slide through the "2" banner to give slack to the other three so they can find a good resting position when the card is closed. Because the string is anchored to the card, it will pull the slack out of the banners as the card is opened and raise them into the air.

This card design is very generic and can be decorated for any theme. You need only the Twist Circle for the mechanism, but if you're interested in replicating this exact card, here are the items you'll need:

Just a quick note about these 9 amazing ladies. Most of them have been on my team since my Sizzix days and we've been posting monthly Designer Challenges for years! Every month for the last three years this team has posted jaw-dropping projects promoting Pop it Ups and Elizabeth Craft Designs. What an honor to have these beautiful people showing off my products in such clever and creative ways. They are my best friends and I couldn't have done it without them.

Sandy Diller set the theme this month and then created this absolutely amazing card featuring several Character dies and a Hee Haw theme. She doubled the Lots of Pops using a clever box cut in the center of the card. So fabulous!

Frances Byrne
created a Z-fold card and then cut the Tags Pivot Card into the panels to animate her greetings. Jinks the Monkey and his pals are partying on the front of the card. As usual, Frances found the perfect mix of papers, stamps and dies for an awesome card.

Karen Aicken
is ushering the new year with a stylish card featuring kraft and red with black accents. So many great details in this card - I love the pink bubbly and the styling on Jinks. The Hanging Charm Pull Tab provides the base.

Raquel Mason shows Jinks the Monkey's true party instincts with this fun Oval Pull Card featuring a background of embossed bananas and an inverted monkey flying on the slider arm. I am bananas for this card!

Fran Sabad created a stunning New Year's card featuring black and gold accents and the Clock die turned into a shaker! I love the way she used the Anita Frames pop-up to highlight the date inside the card. The Party Animals have a couple of hours left!

Shelly Hickox
is celebrating the new year by getting organized with her planner. She created these adorable Character planner clips using a woodlands styling on Honey the Bear and Dutch the Fox. I like the addition of Chilly the Penguin's scarf to Honey as well. This makes me want to become a planner girl!

Caz Counsell ends the year and the Designer Challenges with this fabulous ode to the team, featuring 10 different "spirit animals" representing all of us. She die cut the Lots of Pops across the card several times to give plenty of platforms. I adore this card almost as much as I adore this team!

At year's end it's always a great time to reflect on the journey, and it's been marvelous!

Happy New Year!
