Karen Burniston Pop it Ups Designer Challenge - Pivot Cards

It's a new year, a new die collection and a new home for the Designer Challenges! The February Challenge is posted on the *NEW* Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog.

DC Animated

This month the Designer Challenge Team (plus one Guest Designer) have knocked it out of the park with amazing creations using the three Pop it Ups Pivot Card dies, available NOW at an independent retailer near you. Ask your local store to order them if they haven't already.

Each month I will also participate in the Designer Challenge with a new project and a video tutorial. You can see my project and technique in this video. (If you watch to the end you'll meet Katie!)

The technique in the video is how to fold your paper first to allow the Katie Label Pivot Card to become taller for larger decorations. Plus, the fold technique allows larger cards (this one is a 5" x 7" card - A7) to fit through a standard die cutting machine.

When closed, the Heart Mosaic on pivot page 1 is visible on the front of the card. I used scraps of the Shutters patterned paper to add strips around the card front.

Here's a close-up of the Heart Mosaic element.

The stamp set I used for this card is from Ali Edwards for Technique Tuesday and is linked in the Supply section.

To carry the Shimmer Sheetz heart motif through the card I used one inlaid into the blank label where I can write a personal greeting.

The card was made from a single sheet of patterned paper, so I decided to reinforce it with two backing strips of the same paper.

I love having the option to make the Katie Label taller when I need space for larger embellishments or photos. All it takes is a little creative "fold-hiding" and you've basically got two dies for the price of one!

Here are some shopping links for the supplies used on this card. Definitely check with your local retailer first, however. It's so nice to shop locally when we can and Elizabeth Craft Designs caters to the independent retailers.

If you head over to the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog you'll see all the amazing creations by the Designer Challenge Team plus this alternate card from me with the Doublehigh Katie Label technique:

I love Designer Challenge weeks! So much inspiration.

The March Challenge will be posted on the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog on March 12, 2014 and the theme is Spring cards. The team can use ANY of the Pop it Ups dies to create their project, so I expect lots of fun inspiration (and I'm sure the very popular Garden Bench die will make an appearance or two!)
