Pop it Ups Expanding Heart Pivot Card Tutorial

Pop it Ups Winter Garden Bench Card with Floating Floor

I'm back from CHA and unfortunately have been sick, which is why you didn't see a nice blog recap post from me with the two photos I took while at CHA. (OK, I took more than two photos, but barely - we were so busy!)

Today I felt a little better so I decided to make a card. I'd been wanting to style the Garden Bench in a winter theme to use the little snow bank that comes with it and the All Seasons Tree with the included snowflake. Here's what I came up with:

I added a Floating Floor to the base of the card to allow for the little Penguin stamp to pop-up as well. If you're already familiar with how a Floating Floor works, then here's a template to use with the Garden Bench. If not, you'll have to wait until I have a chance to make a video. (Sorry . . . cough. . . cough. . . wheeze . . . cough)

I didn't give you any side edges to the template so you can make it match the width of whatever card you're using. With Pop it Ups dies YOU choose the card size and YOU choose the pop-up placement, so when using this template, cut your Floating Floor piece wider than your card, cut out the leg slots, slide the floor onto the card, mark the edges of your card, and trim away the excess.

The above photo will show how the Floor attaches to the card - use a strong adhesive on the fold-down tabs and glue them to the back wall and the two bench legs. Make sure you've cut slots in the floor for any pop-ups before adhering the floor to the card. Use "L" supports through the slots. I used the Slot die from the Lucy Label Pop it Ups die to cut a perfect slot for my penguin.

I was able to bring home the one and only set of my new Embossing Folders from the show. There are four folders and they are in transit expected to hit the warehouse by the end of the month. This is #KB102 Trendy Tiles 1. I used it for the backing card as it looks good both embossed and debossed. For the front of the card I kept it simple, with just a Lucy Label (slot dies used again to make a ribbon slide) and a few snowflakes from the All Seasons Tree die, plus a colored and fussy-cut stamped image by Stacey Yacula for Purple Onion Designs.

Inside the card are more Stacey Yacula images, including the penguin, fox and bird. I attached the fox's tail to the bench. Warm Winter Wishes is computer-generated and then cut out with a Lucy Label. The snow bank that comes with the Garden Bench was used along the front of the floor and along the back wall.

I went stash diving to style the bench and the tree. On the white bench I rubbed in some metallic rub-ons with my finger to make it pewter. Then I dumped some dimensional embossing powder over the bench and heat set it. For additional texture I used a Marvy Snow Pen, which you let dry and then heat to make it puff up. I cut two trees - one from corrugated cardboard and one from real wood. Both were stained brown and then embellished with the Snow Pen. I tucked my stamped bird on a branch and added snowflakes from the All Seasons Tree (embellished with glitter dots) throughout the scene.

Here are some shopping links for the main items used in my card. The Pop it Ups dies are shipping now to stores throughout the world, so check with your local store to see if they have been ordered. Otherwise, if you do not have a local store (oh how sad!) then you can buy through the links below.
