Deena Ziegler - Chalkboard Greetings Card Kit

I was very excited when my friend Deena Ziegler, who created all of the package samples for my Journey & upcoming Snippets Sizzix die collections, chose to feature Pop 'n Cuts in one of her monthly card kits.

Even more exciting? She sent me a kit! Here is a photo of what can be created with the card kit - how gorgeous!

June has been very busy with multiple teaching trips, however, so I didn't get a chance to pull out my kit and make the cards until yesterday. At least it's still June! (Barely!)

I thought I would record a little video of me constructing the Pop 'n Cuts cards so you can see how easy they go together and the beauty of Deena's designs. You can purchase her kits individually but you can also subscribe and get a new kit monthly. With a subscription you get free shipping, so it's a great value. For more information, check out Deena's FAQ page here

I really like the way Deena's kits are pre-cut and ready to assemble. She even folded the Pop 'n Cuts cards! This kit included some extra greetings so I could choose the theme of my cards. I also chose to use one of the included tag designs for the front of my Hello card by simply turning a couple of the pieces.

See how quickly the two Pop 'n Cuts cards in Deena's kit can be assembled by watching this video:

Thanks again, Deena! Here is the link again to the Chalkboard Greetings Card Kit.

If you'd like to own the Pop 'n Cuts dies that Deena used in this kit (and the star that I added), here are some shopping links.

Stampin' Up! Pop 'n Cuts - BIG NEWS! Plus two video tutorials

To all my Stampin' Up! crafty followers, I have some BIG NEWS that I am now free to share.

I will be demoing Pop 'n Cuts at SU! Convention in a few short weeks!

I am SO EXCITED! And honored, of course, because I am not a demonstrator myself, so I feel very privileged to be asked to be a special guest at Convention, and especially as they are celebrating 25 years!

Who will I meet there? Leave me a comment if you're going.

In other SU-related news, I have unhidden a couple of previously unlisted video tutorials for a UStamp with Dawn & Friends event I did a few months ago. I noticed that the video links had been posted to Pinterest, so they had already become public, so there was no reason to leave them as "unlisted". Here they are:

Amour Dress Card

The second project is a way that you can create the look of an Accordion Card using nesting Framelits dies.

Floating Framelits Card

Of course, if you don't want to have to do the work by hand, there's always the Bigz Accordion Album die with matching Bigz Frame & Label, Bracket die. They are in stock right now at Scrapbook.com. Here are some shopping links. These dies tend to sell out fast, so grab them while you can:

I often am asked in my classes if all the cards I bring with me are posted on my blog. They are, but it can be somewhat difficult to find them here. A much easier place to find all the Pop 'n Cuts ideas is to follow me on Pinterest. I also repin ideas I find on Pinterest, so you'll get more ideas than just what's been posted here on my blog. However, if you fall in love with an idea, make sure you click to the associated website - you may find more photos or a tutorial.

I also have a Pinterest board where I pin ideas using my products for Stampin' Up!: Stampin' Up! Pop 'n Cuts cards

You can also Join my Mailing List - just click the big blue button in this blog's sidebar. Don't worry about a full in-box - I try to remember to send one newsletter a month, but that's usually the maximum. Sometimes I run special giveaways for my mailing list with code words, etc., so you wouldn't want to be left out of a prize.

I do also love subscribers to my YouTube channel.

Happy Crafting!

CKC Houston Classes

I'm back from an awesome teaching trip to Kentucky and Ohio. Today has been quite the day of getting caught up on e-mails and working out my schedule for CKC Houston, which rolls into the Woodlands this Friday and Saturday, June 28-29, 2013.

I designed two classes for my friend Kristi Coy, who owns Dollarscrapbooking.net. You can get a pre-registration discount on the class fee if you register by today, I believe. Kristi reports that the classes have room in them. I'll be helping out in Friday's classes.

CC2 Summary Photo

This first class is called Cool Closures II, with three different closures than last year's class. You'll make a 10-page girl-themed mini-album that includes three additional opening areas, each with a different closure idea. You'll be able to use the closure ideas on all sorts of future projects.

Gift Card Class Gift Card Class 2

The second class is called How to Give a Gift Card and features three interactive projects. One is a Pop 'n Cuts card, the other is a Hidden Gift Card card and the third is a little Pillow Box Pull Tab thingie where you pull the tab and the gift card comes out the other side. Fun!

Hope you'll be able to join us for these fun classes!

You'll also find me demoing Pop 'n Cuts and the Accordion Album in the It's Cheaper than Therapy booth on Friday from 9:30-11:30 and from 3:00-6:00 pm.

Come on down now, y'hear?

Lucky in Kentucky!

It's a beautiful morning in Kentucky. The sun is shining, the coffee is delicious (hazelnut & vanilla together - definitely will be buying these K-cups! Mmm) and I'm sitting here looking over all the photos that I remembered to take of my awesome class at Scraps, Etc., KY, yesterday.

Here's the store and the wonderful owner, Lori:

The Sizzix Rep, Debbie, picked me up from the airport and I'm staying at her beautiful home in my regular room, courtesy of Christina, who is unfortunately (for me) visiting her grandmother for the weekend. On our drive home from the store last night we saw two deer cross the road, mama and baby, and here is the photo I took of the deer:

The class was a great group! My dear friend Fran, who has been an awesome internet and phone friend, but we'd never met in person until yesterday, drove up from Lexington. Here's the picture of us together. Yes, her eyes are really that beautiful shade of blue!

And here's the photo I always mean to take - where I ask my students (Fran, Teal Nancy, Denise, Lori, Emily, Debbie, Jan, Karen, Barb, Evelyn, Liz, Vicki, Pink Nancy, Marlene) to each grab their favorite card from the class and hold them up for a group shot:

What? The photos don't show up for you?

That's because I FORGOT TO TAKE PHOTOS! As I always do. *sigh*

Today I'll take photos, I promise. And I get to see Lori again tomorrow, so I'll remember to get a photo with her. And Fran is back today, so we are definitely getting a photo together.

But could someone remind me?

No, for reals. Could someone remind me?

Off to Stamping Buddies!

Video Tutorial: Faux Suede Pop-up Suitcase Card using Pop 'n Cuts

For my June Sizzix Blog Post I chose to feature dies from the new Journey Collection, which has recently shipped to stores worldwide.

I asked several of my designer friends to post Suitcase cards on their own blogs this week so that I could link them into my Sizzix Blog Post. The response was incredible and there are SIXTEEN ideas for the Pop 'n Cuts Suitcase Insert plus Bigz Suitcase die posted plus a video tutorial for my Bird Suitcase Card. Definitely check it out!

I was so inspired just writing up the blog post and drooling over all those great cards that I decided to add yet another idea for the Suitcase Pop 'n Cuts insert and Bigz Suitcase die.

IDEA #17: This card uses a faux suede technique (an oldie but a goodie) using Liquid Applique, a brayer and a heat gun.

Bon Voyage Suitcase Card

Here is a quick video tutorial showing how to make the faux suede texture:

To style my suede suitcase I first stamped it with a couple of old postmark stamps from my stash and then added a double strap/buckle using the accessory pieces included on the die. The buckles are cut from Bronze Shimmer Sheetz (as is the handle) and then once the straps and buckles were adhered to the front of my suitcase, I blasted the Shimmer Sheetz buckles with a little bit of heat to make the edges curl under and look more dimensional.

Bon Voyage Suitcase Close-up

I fell in love with the look of Richele Christensen's riveted corners on her suitcase card, so I tried a similar look using 1/16" eyelets. The patterned papers are from a Teresa Collins "Far and Away" 6x6 paper stack. I used the new Pop 'n Cuts Square Card with Ornate Edge for the base and embellished with pieces from the Wavy Framelits set and banners from the Flagpole Sizzlits Strip. The "Enjoy the Journey" is a Tim Holtz stamp.

How to emboss Framelits (using *NEW* Stampin' Up! Deco Label)

The new Stampin' Up! 2013-2014 Annual Catalog is available now through your local demonstrator. There are two new designs to add to the exclusive Pop 'n Cuts collection at Stampin' Up! - the Label Pop 'n Cuts Insert, plus companion Deco Label Framelits to decorate.

SU TY Butterfly Front

There are four nesting labels in the Framelits set, including larger ones for the fronts of cards, in addition to one that will perfectly fit the Pop 'n Cuts insert, leaving a little shadow. Look how nicely the Framelits work with the From My Heart stamp set. I also used Polka Dot Parade DSP and Not Quite Navy ink, plus the Beautiful Wings Embosslits for the butterflies, cut from Glimmer Paper and attached with wire.

SU TY Butterfly Details

The cool embossed effect with the Framelits is the focus of today's tutorial. Let's look at the card's inside first:

SU TY Butterfly Inside

You can see that the new Label Pop 'n Cuts insert fits in the Pop 'n Cuts Card Base to cut a very quick, easy and generic pop-up card. I used the same stamp set and the same glimmer butterfly motif inside the card.

SU TY Butterfly Details2

This close-up photo will show how the Deco Label Framelits fit on the PNC and leaves a slight shadow all the way around. To ink the greetings, I used Stampin' Write markers in Not Quite Navy and Black directly on the stamps. I was inspired by Fran to make two-tone greetings. Hers always look so nice! I used wire to suspend the butterflies, taping the ends to the front of the pop-up before adding the decorator label over the top.

Here's how I achieved the embossed look to my Framelits:

01 Supplies
1. Use Sizzix 655120 Impressions Pad (rigid) and 655121 Silicone Rubber pad (flexible)
02 Emboss1
2. On Tab 1 of the Big Shot Multi-purpose platform, place the rigid pad, then the silicone pad, then the paper (face up), then the Framelits (blade up)
03 Emboss2
3. Add a standard cutting pad over the top and roll through the Big Shot
04 Emboss3
4. Remove the die and see how it has debossed the paper
05 Cut1
5. Switch to Tab 2 of the Multipurpose platform and make a standard Framelits sandwich, using a larger Framelits die from the set. Use a standard cutting pad on Tab 2, then the paper (face up), then the die (blade down), then another standard cutting pad. Roll through the machine.
06 Cut2
6. Remove the paper from the die.
07 Ink
7. Ink (if desired) to show the embossed/debossed areas.

Add the inked label to a Pop 'n Cuts card for a quick impressive card!

SU Thank You Butterfly Card

Besides Pop 'n Cuts (naturally), what are your favorite new products in the new Stampin' Up! catalog? I am excited to try the new Big Shot Magnetic Platform with my Framelits.

I am also excited to see some fun ideas with the new Label Pop 'n Cuts Insert and matching Deco Label Framelits!
